1875
Founding of the "Université Catholique de l'Ouest " in Angers by Mgr FREPPEL (1827-1891).
1909
Creation of the "École Supérieure de Commerce (et d'Industrie) d'Angers " by Paul BAUGAS (1861-1948), professor at the UCO Faculty of Law. The School is an annex of the University, enjoying considerable autonomy in terms of management and finances, and is in no way dependent on UCO subsidies. It is housed in the UCO Palais Académique. Studies last two years, and girls are admitted on the same basis as boys from the age of 15. Eight students have signed up for the full course of study for the new academic year. The first to sign up is Noël DELAFOY.
1921
Creation of the School's first alumni association (the second will be founded in 1938).
1939
ESCA moves into its own premises on rue Merlet de La Boulaye.
1941
The "Société des Amis de l'UCO" is a registered charity.
1942
The Angers Chamber of Commerce supports ESCA.
1943
École Supérieure de Commerce d'Angers (ESCA) becomes École Supérieure des Sciences Commerciales d'Angers (ESSCA).
1953/56
Successive extensions to the school's premises.
1954
The duration of the studies is extended to three years.
1962
The school has AIESEC accreditation.
1967
- ESSCA becomes an Association under the French law of 1901 and acquires legal personality. Although it has its own statutes, it remains associated with the UCO.
- To build its new premises, the École purchased a three-hectare site on the new Belle-Beille university campus.
1968
- ESSCA is one of the very few educational institutions not to suspend classes during the May "events".
- Work begins on the new school.
1969
- The school moves to its new site in Belle-Beille, Rue Lakanal.
- Studies now last four years.
1970
The school is affiliated with FESIC, the French federation of engineering and management schools.
1971
The ESSCA acronym becomes the school's definitive property.
1973
The Baccalauréat is now required to sit the entrance exam.
1975
- The school is recognized by the State.
- Creation of teaching departments within the School.
- Construction of a new wing at Belle-Beille.
1977
ESSCA is a member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles.
1978
Decision to implement the " Formation Alternée", an absolutely innovative initiative in the business school sector.
1979
- Launch of Continuing Education Seminars.
- Birth of the innovative concept of the " post-Bac " school: only that year's baccalaureate holders are admitted to the entrance exam. This major reform gave the École its special status.
1980
ESSCA obtains the right to issue a state-approved diploma.
1984
Expansion work at the Belle-Beille facility.
1985
Publication of the " ESSCA Project ". ESSCA becomes the first Grande École de Commerce in France to adopt a corporate project.
1987
ESSCA publishes its development plan.
1988
Expansion of 3,500 m2. Delivery of the "Jean Monnet" building.
1989
Opening of the first specialized Master's degree.
1992
- ESSCA is a member of the Chapitre des Grandes Écoles de Gestion of the CGE, Conférence des Grandes Écoles.
- Opening ofESIAME, a three-year school, in Cholet. Inauguration of the Espace Accueil and landscaped grounds at Belle-Beille.
1993
- Creation ofESIAME-BUDAPEST, the first Franco-Hungarian business school with a three-year curriculum.
-ESSCA-PARIS opens in Bussy-Saint-Georges, in the heart of the new town of Marne-la-Vallée, in Seine-et-Marne, 32 km east of Paris.
1997
ESSCA-PARIS moves its Paris premises to Bd Excelmans, in the 16th arrondissement.
1998
The decision was made to extend the ESSCA curriculum to five years.
2001
Inauguration of a new 2,500 m2 building on the Belle-Beille site.
2003
ESIAME-CHOLET is accredited to deliver a state-approved diploma. The Budapest School inaugurates new premises.
2004
- ESSCA is authorized to award the Master's degree.
- ESSCA-PARIS joins the Pôle Universitaire Léonard de Vinci (PULV) in the La Défense district.
2006
ESSCA becomes the first post-baccalaureate business school to obtain the EPAS label for its Grande École program for 3 years.
2007
- Start-up of the new ESSCA campus in Shanghai.
- It was decided to increase the number of students to 420, divided equally between the two sites of Angers and Paris, during the two years of the initial program and that ESIAME-CHOLET would leave ESSCA to join the CCI de Maine-et-Loire.
2008
- A woman is appointed Managing Director of ESSCA. Extraordinary attractiveness of the school: over 5,000 candidates attempt the entrance exam for 420 places.
- ESSCA-BUDAPEST celebrates its 15th anniversary with new premises in the Corvinus University building.
2009
- Creation of an ESSCA-Université de Sherbrooke Executive MBA in Paris.
- Construction of a 4,400 m2 building on the Angers site.
- ESSCA receives EPAS re-accreditation for a period of five years, following a highly commendable audit report.
