ESSCA carries the Olympic flame!
On Wednesday June 5, the 25th leg of the Olympic Torch Relay passed through Saint Sébastien Sur Loire (44). (Source article from Relais de la Flamme Olympique).
Philippe Revillon (class of 1992) was one of the torchbearers. For him, a former top-level para-swimmer, "it's a great source of pride" to carry the flame. "I knew a lot of people, so I took full advantage of the moment, because it reminded me of the podiums at the Paralympic Games.
An opportunity for us to take a look back at her exceptional Paralympic career.
Philippe had the immense pleasure of taking part in the Paralympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004, reaching the podium four times in swimming. He won one silver and three bronze medals in the 50 m, 100 m and 200 m freestyle.
Since then, he has regularly shared his life story, mainly with young people, both able-bodied and disabled, from elementary school to higher education.
Swimming has given him both physical and mental fulfilment, and the goals of competition have pushed him to surpass himself. The Games represent the pinnacle for any athlete, able-bodied or disabled.
In sharing this extraordinary experience, Philippe sees just how much this universal event illuminates the minds of sports fans and non-sports fans alike. Carrying the Flame is an immense source of pride, and a powerful symbol to share as we continue to spread the Games' influence, extending an adventure that began over 20 years ago.
Editor's note: I had the pleasure and privilege of having Philippe as a work colleague in the CM-CIC group for almost 10 years, including the period covering the 2 Olympiads. I have fond memories of him. Like many of us, Philippe remains very attached to ESSCA and regularly takes part in events organized by the Club de Nantes. This symbol of the torchbearer is richly deserved in view of his sporting achievements, his commitment to sport in general and Paralympic sport in particular, and to the integration of disabled people.
A "great" man you absolutely must meet!
